Aquaculture in Myanmar has great potential to increase the production of food fish for local and export markets. The sector is in high demand for specialized personnel with adequate scientific knowledge and practical training on the management of fishery and aquaculture system. The BSc Fisheries and Aquaculture course is designed to provide through training and adequate scientific knowledge in the different aspects of aquaculture and fisheries management.

The Myanmar Sustainable Aquaculture Programme (MYSAP) is supporting the BSc (Fisheries and Aquaculture) course, offered by the University of Yangon. MYSAP is jointly implemented by the Department of Fisheries and GIZ, funded by the European Union and the German Government.
Course Facts

Duration - 4 years
Eligibility - Minimum (420) total marks in the matriculation exam, with minimum (75) marks in Biology and (60) in English
Internship Program
Third-year students will participate in a one month internship program at fish/shrimp ponds, laboratories, fish feed factories or hatcheries, based on students' preferences for working experiences.
The special lectures of BSc (Fisheries and Aquaculture) will also be delivered by lecturers and technicians from international universities, the Department of Fisheries and the Myanmar Fisheries Federation (MFF).
Facilities and Equipment
The Department of Zoology and Laboratory of Aquatic Bioscience, University of Yangon, have set up laboratories, a field station, water circulation and aeration systems for practical lessons and laboratory experience.
